Islington Town Hall Wedding

Magical.

Joanna and Arek married at Islington Town Hall the day before lockdown last December. It was a micro wedding - just a handful of very close family and friends and them. I love shooting small, intimate weddings - it’s an honour to be a part of something so personal.

They both got ready at the Zetter Town House in Clerkenwell. Getting ready together makes so much sense with a micro wedding. Nerves are always steadied by being together on one of the most important days of your lives and means all the memories are a shared experience, adding to the intimacy of the day.

A short hop in a cab to Islingtown Hall - a super chic, Grade 2 listed building. Big stair cases and neo classical design make for a beautiful backdrop for some pictures after the ceremony. Shortly after the confetti and group shots, we all hopped into a cab across London and headed to St Dunstan-in-the-East, for some portraits.

Annoyingly the rain came down just as we left the town hall, but I loved their adventurous spirits and we pressed on to the beautiful location - umbrellas at the ready and sense of adventure in our hearts! St Dunstans is a truly magical location and the first time I have had the opportunity to shoot there. They weren’t going to let the rain dampen their spirits and I was so pleased that they both went with the moment and didn’t change the plan - despite the deluge! I totally understand that after hair and makeup and an expensive dress and shoes, the thought of getting wet isn’t an appealing one and I will always find alternatives to shooting if and when it’s like this. But equally, there is so much romance in the spirit of adventure and it always translates into pictures.

St Dunstan’s really is an otherworldly location in the depths of the East End of London. The church was originally built in 1100 and was severely damaged in the Great Fire of London in 1666 and then again in the Blitz in 1940. So much history has passed there. It has been given Grade 1 listed status now. After a brief stop before it became impossible to shoot anymore, we got in another cab to head to “34 Mayfair” to meet up with their friends and family for food. No dancing allowed at the time (thanks Boris you just party away), so i was only there briefly before i left them to enjoy their meal.
