70’s DIY wedding at home..

HNY folks!

It’s been a while since i have blogged ! 2022 was a busy year for me and 2023 has started off with a bang too, but i am trying to be a bit more disciplined in sharing all the things that i have been shooting! Easy to say in January isn’t it ?! How are all those new year resolutions going for you all?!

This was one of my last weddings of the year. A homegrown, local DIY wedding in Brighton. Tony and Clare contacted me about a month before their wedding date. As much as i like to plan my year ahead, i also love to have space for spontaneity as let’s face it - it rules. I’m so glad i was free to shoot this wedding.

Firstly, it was set at their amaaaazing house, which is like something out a film set from The Sopranos. Everything from the getting ready shots to the ceremony, reception and AWESOME party was held here. The house is jawdropping, best party house EVER , “ Hefner Heights” as it is known and you can see why! And as someone who LOVES all things 70’s i was in visual heaven.

The brief was super loose. - also how i like to shoot and i mostly just followed the events of the day as it was unfolding. No structured groups, but some naturally formed. I think it’s a great idea to have a vague plan for your wedding day, but as with more things in life, the day tends to have a personality and flow of it’s own.

I will always try and get the shots that you want (ie if you deffo want that shot with grandma), but i am also very comfortable photographing whats happening around me. so yes, please don’t worry too much about giving me stuff to do and photograph. Get on with the job of having the BEST day EVER and don’t worry about me missing a thing!

This wedding was also a beauty as all of their friends and family contributed to the readings, music, singing, cake , decor, and handfasting - even the celebrant was a friend! Claire (the bride) macrame’d everything in sight too, 70’s wedding styling perfection! So it really was a truly DIY celebration, which for me adds massively to the essence of what a wedding really , truly is all about. LOVE !

I still have some availability for 2023 , so drop me a line here or give me a call and i’ll send you wedding brochure and answer any questions you might have. It’would be such an honour to shoot your wedding day.
